Evidence-Based Assessment Meets Evidence-Based Treatment: Science Informed Case Conceptualization in School Psychology
A science informed case conceptualization process is a critical component of evidence-based practice towards linking evidence-based assessment and treatments. Christon and collegaues (2015) defined case conceptualization as “…a collaborative process of generating hypotheses about causes, antecedents, and maintaining influences for an individual client’s problems within a biopsychosocial context.” Despite the importance of case conceptualization to evidence-based practices, it remains underutilized in school psychology research and practice. This session will describe a five-step science-informed case conceptualization process (Christon et al., 2015), including research support, practical steps for use, and case examples of common school based clinical concerns.
Learning Objectives: At the end of the session, participants will be able to: 1. This session will help participants describe what case conceptualization is and why it’s important to successful use of evidence-based practices in school psychology. 2. Participants will be able to explain the research behind a science informed case conceptualization and how it differs from other models of case conceptualization. 3. Participants will learn how to use and apply a 5-step science-informed case conceptualization process in their own practice.
