There is a critical need for culturally responsive and trauma-informed mental health interventions for Black male survivors of trauma. Historically, systemic biases and a lack of understanding of the unique experiences of Black males have contributed to ineffective treatment approaches. This session will delve into the multifaceted impacts of trauma on Black males and examine the manifestations of unaddressed trauma, including emotional dysregulation, maladaptive coping mechanisms, and interpersonal challenges. Participants will gain trust-building strategies for building trust that contribute to the restoration and empowerment of Black males.
This session will help participants:
Identify and articulate the unique impacts of historical and contemporary trauma on the mental health and behavioral patterns of Black male trauma survivors.
- Develop at least three culturally responsive strategies for building therapeutic rapport and engaging effectively with Black male trauma survivors in school settings.
- Apply specific trauma-informed interventions that address the emotional, psychological, and social needs of Black males, promoting healing, resilience, and healthy coping mechanisms.
