Researchers estimate that 5-7.5 million students are chronically absent, (i.e., missing 18 or more days of school each year) resulting in decreased academic achievement, graduation rates and post-secondary enrollment (Balfanz & Byrnes, 2012; Chang & Romero, 2008). Using a data-based problem-solving process can decrease chronic absenteeism and improve overall attendance. In this webinar, we will share tools and methods for using data to identify student attendance patterns, populations or groups more likely to be chronically absent, root causes for absenteeism and interventions matched to need.

    Learning Objectives:
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
    1. Use district or school data to identify student attendance patterns and chronic absenteeism prevalence rates.
    2. Support analysis of chronic absenteeism data (e.g., root causes) at the student and systems levels.
    3. Assist in matching interventions for chronic absenteeism to identified needs.
