This session will explore the often-underutilized role of school psychologists in enhancing universal, Tier 1 instruction. While school psychologists are frequently in classrooms to observe students, they may feel uncomfortable or unknowledgeable in providing feedback on classroom management to teachers, especially if they lack a teaching background. This session will provide a practical framework to conduct purposeful observations and deliver actionable, non-evaluative feedback on instructional and behavioral management strategies. Our goal is to empower school psychologists with the confidence and skills to be effective partners in prevention, improving student outcomes, and reducing the need for more intensive supports.
This session will help participants:
1. Describe the benefits of a preventative, Tier 1 consultation approach for enhancing the role of the school psychologist, empowering teachers, and improving student outcomes with an equity-centered approach.
2. Identify at least three Tier 1 classroom management strategies that promote a culturally responsive and inclusive "Classroom of Care."
3. Formulate and deliver non-evaluative, strengths-based feedback that empowers teachers and improves classroom management while minimizing conflict or resistance.
