While guardianship can be a valuable tool it is not the only one in the toolbox for young people in their transition to adulthood. In this session, representatives from a state protection and advocacy agency for people with disabilities, the courts, and the public schools will discuss the realities of guardianships and other ways to assist young people entering adulthood with decision making.
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the impact of a guardianship for a young person exiting the educational system
2. Describe alternatives to guardianship and how they are viewed and accessed by diverse communities
3. Identify strategies to empower youth to develop skills to self-advocate and make decisions
