Tourette syndrome and other tic disorders affect at least 1% of students, but they are often underrecognized and misunderstood. Tics are the defining feature of Tourette syndrome, but the syndrome includes many other symptoms that also affect a child’s education. The main goal of this session is to provide information about Tourette syndrome, its potential impact on education, and the means of identifying and addressing educational challenges that may affect those with Tourette syndrome and tic disorders.

    Learner Objectives
    This session will help participants:
    1. Understand Tourette syndrome/tic disorders and its prevalence.
    2. Discuss the potential impact of co-occurring conditions on classroom performance.
    3. Understand classroom strategies and accommodations for students with tic disorders.
