The national shortage of school psychologists employed as university faculty in school psychology training programs persists (NASP, 2017). The domino effect of the shortage of faculty will compound the shortage of practitioners. If there continue to be open faculty positions, programs will either recruit and admit smaller numbers of students because of a lack of capacity to adequately advise and teach students or there will be significant increases of student to faculty ratios (Graves & Brown Wright, 2007). This presentation will highlight nontraditional career paths of practitioners moving into roles as faculty, and it will emphasize the benefit of moving into a faculty position after working in the field.

    Learner Objectives:
This session will help participants to:
    1. Describe various paths for entering academia after practicing in the field.
    2.  Describe various types of faculty positions.
    3. Identify experiences that best prepare an applicant to move into an academic role.
