Supervision is a critical competency area in school psychology at all levels of the professional lifespan yet it often does not garner as much attention as other practice areas. This session will briefly overview supervision foundations (i.e., purpose, definitions), highlight practical approaches to formative and summative assessment, and consider ways to provide strengths-based feedback. A developmental approach to supervision will be highlighted in which supervisors can move beyond overreliance on supervisees' self-report. Finally, presenters will reflect on ways participants can continue to grow as supervisors in the future.

    This session will help participants:
    1. Describe the value of supervision as a distinct competency area (i.e., knowledge, skills, and values, including those related to culturally responsive supervision practice).
    2. Identify alternatives to supervisee self-report as a primary supervision tool, and use an array of strategies to support supervisee growth.
    3. Apply practical approaches to assessment and feedback in supervision.
