Writing great reports—reports that inspire hope and motivate change—does not require extraordinary talent or superhuman effort. Transformative reports are possible when we apply to our readers the same empathic consideration we give to children we assess. In this workshop, we will learn a set of principles and a classic writing style designed to help the reader see the child with new eyes and thus inspire effective efforts to intervene on the child’s behalf. Note: There is significant overlap with the introductory workshop from the same presenter.

    Learner Objectives:
    This workshop will help participants
    1. write reports that are both legally defensible and easily understood by readers of any cultural background,
    2. develop a report writing style that recasts the assessment report as a means of communicating an empathic understanding of a child, and
    3. identify common writing habits that pose unnecessary barriers to comprehension.
