This session explores the intersectional experiences of transgender and gender expansive (TGE) youth with ADHD, students who often face unique challenges navigating school systems. Drawing from qualitative research rooted in queer, feminist, and crip theory, the presentation highlights how masking, executive functioning barriers, and systemic bias impact mental health and access to services. School psychologists will gain insight into identity-affirming practices, advocacy strategies, and how to foster supportive environments that recognize both neurodivergence and gender diversity. Practical tools and case-based discussion will support inclusive school-based mental health care.

    This session will help participants:

    1. Describe at least three ways in which the intersection of ADHD and transgender/gender expansive (TGE) identities uniquely affects students’ access to school-based mental health services.

    2. Identify specific strategies school psychologists can use to provide affirming and culturally responsive support to TGE youth with executive functioning and emotional  regulation needs.

    3. Apply inclusive consultation and advocacy practices that challenge systemic barriers and promote equitable educational environments for neurodivergent and gender-diverse students.
