Assessment of Dyslexia and Specific Learning Disabilities
This session presents a model for using formative assessment data to make better decisions about students with or at risk for Dyslexia within a Multi-Tiered Service System (MTSS) model. The session will emphasize a general approach to screening and progress monitoring using any high-quality assessment for students with or at risk for Dyslexia and specific learning disabilities. The presenter will include illustrative examples from Acadience Reading K–6. Learner Objectives: This session will help participants: 1. Obtain and interpret data-based evidence of (a) poor essential reading and early literacy skills, (b) lack of adequate progress, and (c) despite generally effective reading instruction. 2. Monitor progress and establish individual student learning goals that are (a) ambitions, (b) meaningful, and (c) attainable. 3. Use direct assessment of academic skills and data-based evidence of the effectiveness of the instructional context to increase the accuracy of decisions and reduce bias for students from diverse backgrounds. "
