Increasing attention is being given to inequitable education practices. But what role does deficit-thinking play in creating and maintaining racial inequities? We’ll examine 9 principles, rooted in a strength-based approach, to shift the mindsets of school psychologists from what’s wrong to what’s strong, disrupt racial inequities, and improve outcomes for students.

    Learner Objectives:
    This session will help participants:
    1. describe how racial inequities, ideals, and practices show up in schools.
    2. how to avoid equity detours at all costs.
    3. apply the disrupter mindsets needed to disrupt oppressive systems.
    4. describe the Power Potential and see an example of how it can transform lives while disrupting racial inequities.
