    This workshop will explore five prominent brain changes that result from trauma and discuss how academic learning, behavior, and emotional wellness can be affected by excess stress and anxiety. Discussion will explore how schools can better recognize, screen, and provide appropriate intervention services for children who have experienced significant trauma in their lives.  Developing school-wide trauma practices will be featured, along with key trauma screening tools. 

    Learner Objectives:
    This workshop will help participants
    1. learn five prominent brain changes that result from trauma, and discuss how children in lower socioeconomic environments may be at risk for developing increased stress and trauma in their lives;
    2. review various trauma screening tools and discuss numerous steps that school psychologists can take to identify and intervene with students experiencing trauma in their lives; and
    3. explore effective classroom interventions and school-wide strategies to promote school safety, emotional wellness, and a culture of respect and tolerance to produce trauma-informed schools.
    3 Documented CPD Credits/Hours   NASP is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. NASP maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
