This session describes practical strategies for collaborating with students and others to develop useful counseling and intervention goals. Short demonstrations and exercises equip participants to immediately apply these techniques.

    This session will help participants:
    1.    Ask carefully worded questions that invite students to describe what they want from the school psychologist and their services.
    2.    Talk with students and caregivers in ways that engage their investment in creating useful goals and their motivation to achieve them.
    3.    Respond effectively to difficult challenges that arise when developing goals with students and caregivers.
