This session begins with a discussion of the aspects of suicide postvention that identify it as a special form of crisis intervention. These include contagion, clusters, bereavement, and social stigma. The role of development and culture are also explored. This session also reviews a 14-item school suicide postvention protocol. Time will be allocated to discuss implementing postvention strategies at the local level. Learner Objectives: This session will help participants
appreciate how contagion and stigma affect the postvention response,
increase their knowledge of how to conduct a suicide postvention, and
understand how cultural differences affect the suicide postvention response.
