School Psychologists as Mental Health Superheroes in Early Childhood
School psychologists have the skills to address the mental health needs of young children, and we have a responsibility to do so. An ecological, culturally engaged perspective of the child’s needs will provide the context for what can be done at home and in classrooms. Participants will learn easy-to-implement, evidence-based strategies for enhancing children’s social-emotional skills. Advocacy will be incorporated with the purpose of increasing our visibility and impact in early childhood.
This session will help participants:
Identify approaches for addressing social-emotional needs in early childhood.
Describe advocacy skills for becoming more a part of early childhood services.
Implement strategies and tools to improve equity of services for children who are underserved in early childhood programs.
