The assessment of CLD students is a complex process, particularly distinguishing between a language difference or learning disability. This workshop will focus on understanding how cultural factors such as language influence the assessment process. This workshop also will consider instrument selection and interpretation of test results and discuss a model to guide the evaluation of CLD students in the decision-making process for special education eligibility.

Learner Objectives:
This workshop will help participants

describe the language acquisition process and its impact on test validity,
select appropriate assessment tools for the evaluation of culturally and linguistically diverse students, and
discuss and implement the steps involved in completing an evaluation of culturally and linguistically diverse students.

3 Documented CPD Credits/Hours NASP is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. NASP maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
