Transgender and gender-diverse students experience a wide range of stressors that perpetuate a binary (e.g., boys/girls) gender ideal. In response, this session will use lecture, videos, and personal experiences to build shared knowledge. Participants will also learn how an environmental assessment tool can facilitate powerful collaboration toward building inclusive school cultures. This session is sponsored by the Convention Committee.
This session will help participants
1. consider the various environmental stressors that challenge the resilience of transgender and gender-diverse youth;
2. consider strategies for supporting the physical, social–emotional, and mental health and well-being of transgender and gender-diverse youth; and
3. learn how an environmental assessment tool can support team planning and action and lead to long-term system change.
