Asset-Focused Ecological Supports for Vulnerable Youth During COVID-19 and Post-Pandemic
There is an overwhelming need for feasible, grounded, and effective approaches to addressing the emotional needs of vulnerable youth developing with significant social–emotional and environmental stressors (e.g., economic stress, histories of trauma, immigrant populations, LGBTQ and racially marginalized youth), which have been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. This session will review asset-focused methods to promote supportive environments based on microsystems and mesosystems of Urie Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory of youth development. This webinar will examine school psychologists' role as consultants and liaisons when engaging systems, including families, schools, health services, community, and faith-based agencies.
Learner Objectives: This session will help participants to:
Identify factors that increase vulnerability in youth, particularly during the pandemic.
Apply asset-focused ecological supports.
Describe the role of school psychologists as liaisons and consultants with systems outside of the school setting.
