Intelligence testing is a key part of any comprehensive assessment, yet we continue to use tests that are 100+ years old. Participants will learn about research which illustrates the limitations of traditional IQ and interpretation methods intended to make them better. The good news is that research findings show that we can do better by using alternative measures which are more socially just, more effective for SLD determination, and provide instructional guidance.
Learning Objectives: At the end of the session, participants will be able to: 1. use their understanding of the limitations of IQ tests to select and interpret tests, 2. determine when a test question measures knowledge not intelligence, and 3. use information from tests that are socially appropriate for diagnosis and intervention.
