There is a growing number of youth in our school displaying mental health disorders that interfere with their academic and social/emotional success. This workshop will explore many of the common mental health disorders found in the school-age population. More importantly, participants will explore a number of effective approaches to intervening with the challenging behavior displayed by these children and youth and identify ways to promote mental health,
This session will help participants:
1. describe the nature of mental health and mental health disorders in the school setting.
2. identify characteristics associated with common mental health disorders found within the school-age population.
3. identify empirically validated interventions shown to be effective when addressing the challenging behaviors displayed by these students.
4. program for the promotion of good mental health within the school and the prevention of mental health disorders.
