Despite their promise, school-based trauma-specific treatments that address the mental health and behavioral needs of students are often seen as being in direct conflict with the academic mission of a school. Trauma-informed schools attempt to resolve this conflict by adopting a universal approach to meet the needs of trauma-exposed youth—and to create safe and supportive schools for all students. Learn about practical and implementable tools and strategies to create trauma-informed schools in your community.
This session will help participants:
1) discuss school-wide indicators of a trauma-informed school.
2) identify trauma-informed strategies to create positive school climates that support all students.
3) explore tools to assess their school’s strengths and gaps in policies and programming that are responsive to trauma-exposed students.
